The global BPM and BPMS market
Today all big analysis companies follow the development of Business Process Management (BPM) and Business Process Management Suites (BPMS) with great interest. Reports of the development of the BPM and BPMS market are annually published by, among others, Forrester and Gartner. Market-and product studies are constantly published by, among others, Technology Evaluation Center.
Their conclusion is that the market for BPM is about to explode. The market for BPMS has in only a few years grown to approximately 1 billion USD. The global use of products within BPM and BPMS is calculated by Gartner to improve with 200% up to 2.6 billion USD in 2011. Forrester makes an even more optimistic calculation and believes that the market will have a turnover of 6.3 billion USD in 2011. The BPMS market is considered fairly unsusceptible to changes in the business cycle due to the fact that delivered solutions on a BPMS aim for reduced costs and increased efficiency.
What is Business Process Management?
Business Process Management (BPM) is a systematically approach used to improve a company's business processes. BPM provides the business side of a company with theories to describe, visualize and improve their own processes. BPM gives the company a clear view of how the company is functioning and how to use basic data for decision-making and how to continue improvements.
Describe, Visualize and Improve Processes
By describing and visualizing the business process, the company gets a clear and understandable view of the following questions:
- What is performed in the process?
- How is it performed?
- Who is performing it?
- In what order is it performed?
- How long can every activity take to perform?
The described process provides the company with a real-time visibility into the process, the basic data needed to analyze how their process works and to make the right decisions for constant improvements in their business. By describing the process there will be a common way of executing the business process, which will lead to increased productivity for the process workers.

A BPMS is a set of applications which enables organizations to manage their business processes successfully. BPMS includes tools to:

- Automatize, control and measure business processes.
- Provide feedback and reports on performance of the process.
- Improve business processes.
